Hornbeam Cottage – Location and environs
Chichester and the shoreline
Hornbeam Cottage is in a wonderful location. The lovely small City of Chichester is pedestrianised, with great shopping and restaurants. Its ancient Cathedral, famous theatres and wonderful art galleries, are only 10 minutes away by car. The sea at Bosham with its Saxon Church is situated on an inlet of Chichester Harbour and is just 5 minutes away and is great for leisurely strolls along its shores and is very picturesque.
Pub lunches and afternoon teas can be found in many different venues on the sea shores, in a number of nearby harbours, Itchenor and Dell Quay for example, as well as cream teas in the many Downland villages.
Pubs and Restaurants
Our village of West Ashling has its own wonderful pub, the Richmond Arms, famous for its cuisine and a short walk from our gate. Alternatively stroll along the footpath to East Ashling to The Horse and Groom. As an alternative place to eat, very close to the cottage, it’s a drive of just two minutes to The Fox and Hounds in Funtington.
Beaches are 20 minutes away at The Witterings and Bracklesham Bay where there is surfing and wind surfing, but beware the tides when bathing. There are long sandy beaches and sand dunes too. The road to the coast can get busy in the summer.
